We Already Thought of That - So you don’t have to.

You Brought Too Much

We say that with love.

Let’s start with a little honesty.

You’re probably going to overpack. Everyone does.

If you’re wondering what to bring to a bed and breakfast, the short answer is this: less than you think. The essentials are covered—you’re really just packing for comfort.

We see it all the time—bags packed for a week-long expedition… for a two-night stay. Or dare I say it… a one-night stay. It’s ambitious. It’s unnecessary. And we say that with love.

Because here’s the thing about staying at a bed and breakfast – especially one like ours: you don’t need much. If you’re wondering what to bring to a bed and breakfast, this is where most people overthink it.

At the Main Street Inn, we’ve already handled the essentials. The not-so-glamorous things, the easy-to-forget things, and even a few of the “oh, that’s nice” extras. Yes, this includes plush towels, cozy robes, and a hair dryer ready to go (no diffuser attachments – we know, we know).

In other words… the basics are covered, so you don’t have to think about them.

So what actually makes the list?

If you’re figuring out what to bring to a bed and breakfast, it really comes down to a few simple things: essentials, comforts, and everything you can leave at home.

Start with the obvious: your toothbrush, your medications, and your phone charger. Beyond that, it’s less about necessity and more about comfort.

If you have a favorite pillow you can’t live without, bring it. We won’t be offended… probably. If you’re planning to explore the trails, pack the shoes for it. If you’ve been meaning to sit still with a good book, this is your moment.

And if you’re a light sleeper, a sleep mask or earplugs aren’t a bad idea. Our 140-year-old home has plenty of charm—and occasionally, that charm creaks, chirps, or makes itself known in the quiet of the night.

What you don’t need to bring:

While we appreciate a good spa moment, our tubs prefer to keep things simple. Bath bombs, oils, and anything that might turn a relaxing soak into a plumbing situation are best left behind.

Candles and incense fall into a similar category. As much as we respect the mood, the fire code is not nearly as flexible.

If you’d like the full rundown, it’s all tucked neatly into The Guest Edit and the Fine Print… but we promise, nothing in there will surprise you.

The real thing to pack (hint… it’s not in your bag)

What you should pack, more than anything, is a mindset.

This isn’t a hotel stay where you need to anticipate every possible scenario. This is slower. Simpler. A little more thoughtful.

Mornings unfold a bit easier here. Coffee tastes better when you’re not rushing. Evenings don’t need much of a plan.

So pack for that version of yourself – the one who’s not in a hurry.

When it comes to what to bring to a bed and breakfast, it’s simple. Bring what you love. Leave what you don’t need.

And the rest? Unless it’s weird – we’ve probably already thought of that.

Stay Happy
