A Few Friendly Guidelines:
- First, we strongly recommend purchasing certificates for a flat dollar amount rather than for a specific room. Why? Because that dreamy suite may be booked when your recipient finally picks a date… and we don’t want anyone crying into their complimentary granola bar.
- Most certificates are emailed instantly. However, if you’re feeling fancy, we’ll happily mail a physical copy… either to you or straight to the recipient. Just reply to your confirmation email with the name and mailing address. We’ll break out the real envelopes.
- Payment (credit card or cash) is required before the certificate is issued. (We’ve tried telepathy. It didn’t work.)
- Recipients may choose to upgrade their stay… think: a fancier room, an extra night, or treating themselves… and just pay the difference when they reserve.
- Booking online? Enter your gift certificate number at checkout to apply it to the balance first. Prefer the human touch? Call us… we’ll help you use it.
- Important Note: If we have to modify a reservation after it’s made to apply a gift certificate and refund your card, we reserve the right to charge a 5% credit card/administration fee. (Paperwork & Banks aren’t free, people.)
About That Expiration Stuff…
- Gift certificates issued BEFORE Jan 1, 2013 came from a different era (and owner) and are ancient history now. They were only good for one year, and at this point, they’re about as redeemable as Blockbuster coupons. No extensions, no exceptions, no resurrections.
- As for Donated gift certificates issued before Jan 1, 2013 – same story. These expired over a decade ago and have officially crossed into folklore. We’re no longer accepting them, no matter how charming the fundraiser pitch was at the time.
- For Gift certificates issued AFTER Jan 1, 2013 here’s how it works:
- Valid for 1 year from the purchase date (see date on the certificate).
- After 12 months of radio silence, they go dormant. You can reactivate one for a $50 fee, but they’ll come with restrictions: valid only Monday–Thursday, and that’s if we like you.
- After 5 years, these puppies expire completely. Like Cinderella’s carriage… only less magical.
- Unused balances are not refundable but may be applied to a future stay.
(But don’t get sneaky… credit is non-transferable and must be used by the person named.)
- Meanwhile, donated gift certificates issued after Jan 1, 2013 will have the exact terms written on the certificate. Read it.
One Last Thing (Before Someone Tries to Use a SpaFinder Card…)
We only accept third-party certificates from Stay INN the Heartland (formerly BBIM).
If you have one of those, call us at 816.272.9750 to book. We do not accept IOUs written on napkins.
